Introducing The Botanicalists
The Botanicalists is a group of interdisciplinary artists brought together by a passion for botanical arts.
The Botanicalists is a Dunedin-based group of eleven artists who draw and exhibit together. Several of us work in the botanical watercolour tradition, while others of the group explore botanical forms in jewellery, coloured pencils, printed textiles and silverpoint.
Our subjects include both native and introduced plants, alone and in groups. Some works present the realistic details of plant anatomy needed for scientific classification while others explore shape and colour in abstract ways. Whether realistic or impressionistic, each work is an original artistic composition.
The Botanicalists individually are: Katharine Allard, Noelyn Buisman-Hung, Jane Marshall Fitzgerald, Pam Hollow, Louise Ind, Marion Mertens, Anet Neutze, Zantedeschia Robini, Yvonne Vannoort, Kate Watts and Sigurd Wilbanks.
